Free Ice Skating in Waterloo Public Square

Waterloo Public Square, 75 King St S, Waterloo

Enjoy free skating this winter on the outdoor skating rink in Waterloo Public Square. Located in uptown Waterloo at 75 King St South, the rink is open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily during cold weather months.

Please note, the rink can be closed due to poor weather (call 519-886-1177 for closure information), and it is not designed for hockey - sticks and pucks are not allowed. In accordance with current Public Health guidelines, capacity is on the rink is limited to 50 people.

Need Skates?

The City of Waterloo does not rent out skates on site, but skate rentals are available up the street at McPhails Cycle and Sport (98 King Street North, Waterloo).

MacPhail's Hours:

  • Monday - Wednesday 9am - 6pm
  • Thursday - Friday 9am - 6pm  
  • Saturday 9am - 5pm
  • Sunday Closed

General rules for outdoor rinks:

  • Use of appropriate helmets is strongly recommended.
  • Please respect our environment, dispose of litter in the receptacle provided.
  • Slap shots are not permitted at any time.
  • Pucks must stay on the rink surface at all times.
  • Hockey will be permitted during posted hours only.
  • Refrain from skating during periods of thaw when ice surface is wet or soft.
  • Keep children, pets, and vulnerable individuals away from rink surfaces that are wet or thawed.
